It is with excitement that we at ALPHERA learn of our parent company, BMW’s, confirmation that it will be entering the FIA Formula-E Championship as an official manufacturer for Season 5.

At ALPHERA we pride ourselves on our efforts to be leaders in our field. With this in mind we’re honoured to be part of a group that is demonstrating its continued commitment to innovation by using the Formula E Championship as a platform to develop and mobilise its current iNEXT model, as well as future generations of its i series.

The decision to become a manufacturer in the Formula E Championship forms part of plans to realign the motorsport strategy within the BMW Group. This is an extremely exciting time for BMW, who has invested heavily in electric mobility over the past ten years, as it shows a step change in the company’s commitment to this area of development. Using such a high profile, competitive arena for the testing of its electric technologies is a bold move and one that is already paying dividends.

The fast-paced, competitive drive to be race-ready within motorsport is the perfect breeding ground for experimentation, innovation and, ultimately, ground-breaking improvements – key values we share at ALPHERA.

The newly-developed BMW drivetrain will be used by the Andretti Formula E works team from 2018 in races hosted in some of the world’s biggest and best known cities.
